Hekp! I've fallen and I can't get up.

My wife is very immobile due to her age and her overweight. I can't
lift her. We live alone in the country.

Last night she slipped getting out of bed and fell to the floor. I
could not lift her to get her upright. It took much in the way of
gyrations on her part and partial lifting on my part to get her back
onto the bed.

This brings me to my question - Does anyone know of some kind of
'lifting device' that might assist me to help her next time? I'm sure
there will be a next time. I would like it to be simple of course,
and hopefully not very expensive.

I hate to beg, but I feel very desperate now.

Thank you

you are probably going to need a 'patient lift' aka 'hoyer' lift device
-

here is the bottom line - the device has to be strong enough to lift the
patient with only minimal assistance from the caregivers - these are
specifically made to do the job -

take a look here for a typical device:

it looks like you're in washington state, so you can also take a look at
the below page, for a 'recycle' possibility

First, I meant 'Help', not 'Hekp'. Sorry about that. I was somewhat
distraught. Second, I am not there. I am in Delaware.

ah! the olympus.net addy [port washington, wa.] misled me!

for a recycle program in delaware, try:

http://www.dati.org/

now, if you do end up going with a lift, 'please' make sure to consult a
pt/ot - there are variations of equipment 'and slings' that really do
make a diff to the caregiver and patient.

be well

You might look at a gatebelt and see if it will work in your case.
